Michelin Tire Recall - How Long To Get Replacement Tires?

I am taking my unit in to the local Ford dealer to get an oil change & replacement tires (due to the Michelin recall). I am reading some things on the 'net that supplies of replacement tires aren't real high. I guess that makes sense given the number of tires that need to be replaced. So, looking for feedback from others who had this done recently, is there a long wait to get replacement tires? I am taking the unit on an 1800 mile trip in about 4 weeks so really would like it resolved by then. Figuring that should be OK but just curious what others have experienced recently.

  • OP here with an update. Not good news so far. Tire guy said the the Michelin MS2 tires are on a national backorder with about 3 - 4 weeks as the estimated timeline. We leave on an 2000 mile trip 4 weeks from today so not real comfortable taking a chance & waiting. The tire guy said an alternative that Michelin would cover is the Michelin AT tires. But he said they're not as smooth. Any suggestions by anyone?
  • Road trip!...Destination Pittsburgh...all aboard.

Hopefully NY will have then in april:B
  • Called my local tire shop nine days ago about the tires. Said that Michelin required him to verify that the tires on the unit were recalled. Two days later (Thursday), I drove our RV to the shop, and they verified the tires as recalled. Monday this week they called and reported the replacements in house. Yesterday, I had them installed. Date coded 0314.
  • Local ford dealer cant get them here in tucson. Offered to install BFG's instead. Local michelin dealer also cannot tell me when any would be available. The michelin dealer checked his phoenix stores and they are out also.
  • Went to Ford last week...he wasn't sure when he would get them...on my way to Tucson from CA...taking my time and checking the tires (pressure and visual) daily.
  • We are roaming around Florida and therefore not in one place for more than say 10 days. We have called around but due to our moving and lack of stock at the tire places, so far we have been unsuccessful in getting tires. Probably looking at April for us when we get home, unfortunately!

There are very fine checks in a small part of the sidewalls.

Good luck...go early, don't delay and given them time to get them. The local guy told us there were 8 tires in ohio!!!
  • Why not call the Ford dealer your going to and ask them if they have them or how long it will take to get them?
  • I doubt if others experience is going to help you much.
I would think it would be a local tire dealer issue and would vary.

I wouldn't wait until the last minute if I was planning a trip though.

I did get mine replaced mid January. My local dealer had 7 in stock.
  • I just had mine replaced by my dealer also due to the recall. It took them about 3 days to get the tires.

  • Had my tires replaced with Michelin MS2's back on January 22nd. It took the local Michelin dealer a week to get the new tires. Availability may have changed since then as more folks get in line for replacement tires.
