hi allthe onan 2800 in my 94 pleasureway has started blowing white smoke.i havent used it much over the past year..and i will admit i havent exercized it enough...maybe 30 mins every other month.it runs great except for the sudden smoke. unit is very clean inside with no sign of leaks.pulled the plug and was soaked in gas.replaced with new one and smoke started up again a few minutes later.its sounding like a carb issue? ive heard these arent rebuildable but has anyone had this issue?thanksandy

If it was over rich it would seem to be black sooty smoke. If it's more white it would seem like coolant if it was water cooled. Burning oil may seem whiteish but is usually more blueish. Check for over filled oil then also look for oil in the breather /intake side of things. It could be rich so check that then perhaps move on to a quick compression test. A more through test will be a leak down test that will give you an idea of percentage of wear on the combustion system. A leak down test will tell more than a compression test.If you ticked someone off they may have pumped your muffler full of grease and it will smoke for hours. :) Oh yes it will........

put a can of sea foam in your fuel. if mine ,I,d take the fuel line off and put the sea foam in the gas line,start let run a couple minutes and shut off let sit a couple hours restart, sea foam will eat up gunky old gas. white smoke is a sign of water.

Change oil and filter. Sounds like float in carb stuck.

That will just prolong the inevitable, replacing the carb.Exercising the gen-get is even more important since ethanol has been added to the gas.Installing a fuel cut off, and running the carb dry will help when not being able to exercise per Onan's recommendations. Exercising is not just for the carb. though, it's also for evaporating water inside the engine.

sorry for the lack of updates.

gathering solar components and basically rewiring and remodeling the rear half of the rv have been sapping time.

ive tried pretty much everything suggested and no luck.

my lack of proper care has bit me

looks like a new carb is in order.

I replaced my carburetor last fall. It cost $200 delivered. I can't remember the place but did Google search.

If there's debris in the carb. bowl you will have to replace the carb. there is no way to really clean it. If you have to replace the carb. there's one positive, it makes replacing the fuel filter, which is almost impossible to get to otherwise, a lot easier.

Dropping the gen-set is not that hard. I think 5 bolts, gas line, electrical connections, and exhaust.
Normal tools except for a small floor Jack, and a set of Rhino ramps.

Handbasket, who posts here, dropped his 2800 gen-set in his old Roadtrek, and posted about it. Try searching the archives for his posts older than a year ago, or drop him a pm if you have questions.

White smoke is unburnt gas, blue smoke would be oil. The fact that the new spark plug is soaked in gas tells me it's a carb. problem, not an oil burning problem.
Putting Seafoam in the carb is your best bet to get it running, but may not clean the carb. completely.

unfortunatly at this time running it longer than 10 mins is not making the neighbourhood happy.
ill have to find a quiet spot in the desert to try.

ps... oil is right at full mark.
it was a couple ounces shy when this first started so i filled it. no difference.

Turn on the A/C to provide a load and run the genset for several hours with the load and see if it improves anything.
