You should consider a RV from Cruise America's rental fleet. Check their website, you will be surprised and impressed. You will find a meticulously maintained RV, with a substantial, lengthy warranty, and priced in your first budget.
I have considered rentals and I have even gone and looked at them. Cruise America has a showroom very close to where I live. I don't like the Majestic brand. They are made very utilitarian. There is no cutout above the cab so the driver can get up from the seat. And they cut way back on amenities as those are the things that break. Also most of the ones I saw had well over 100K miles on them so I wonder how much life is left in the drivetrain. I also found lots of wear on the vinyl floor and cabinets. I have also found that the ads on Craigslist by private owner for selling their Majestics (at a very low price) seen to linger for months before they go away so I assume resale is hard.
I have also looked at a couple other rentals locally but the wife didn't like the floorplans. I liked those models better than the Majestics at Cruise America but the wifey has to happy too.
A note to Iamichabod. I have read every post you have made about rental units and I love your passion. You are like an evangelist trying to convert the masses. It was because of you and your passion that I decided to check out rental return units. I have bought several rental return cars in my lifetime and they were among the best vehicles I have owned. I agree that rental returns can be a great buy for the money and that they typically have been better maintained than the average RV. My only problem with them is finding one that has the amenities we want and the floorplan we desire. Haven't seen one yet that would tempt both me and the DW.
