We just went through what you are going through. In fact I drove nearly 400 miles round trip to look at one similar to the Tioga 31w we recently bought. I explained to the salesman that I was 3 hours away and please let me know in advance of ANY issues the coach might have. All he said was a minor dent very low in the right front fender. So, I made the trip and when I got there, the first thing I saw when I stepped in the coach was mold all over the ceiling! I was livid, but of course the salesman just said, "that'll clean right up". Yeah, right.
I eventually found our very very clean 2006 Tioga that had been stored indoors with only 12k on the odometer from the original owner. It was about 450 miles round trip, but well worth it. The reason for selling was a divorce and we got it for $5k less than the dealer wanted for the moldy one with 43k on it.
Keep looking as they are out there, just have to be patient. Being in the high desert far away from big cities makes it tough for us. So, driving 100-200 miles one way is the norm, but generally worth it as most here are sun cooked.
