I purchased a 1998 Four Winds 23rk last year with 36k on it for $14k. Sound high but it was in fine shape inside and out. I did a check on the VIN number and found it had had five owners. It had no service records with it, but did have new tires, no leaks, everything worked. I dropped another 5k into it in preventive maintenance. All new hoses, tie rod ends, differential cleaned and new oil, mass air flow sensor cleaned, new Bilstein HD shocks, new high profile ceramic toilet, new break hoses, breaks flushed, engine and radiator flushed, Safe T plus stabilizer, all brass tire air valves, roof checked and sealed, plus more. Went on a 2400 mile trip without a problem, and averaged 13mpg. Will I get my money back in resale, no. But I have a reliable MH with a full service record. If you don't plan on losing money on a MH, then you bought it for the wrong reason.
The reason the MH was passed down to me by five other was the steering. They were not willing to put money into it, or find out why it felt like the front tires were not on the road. New tie rod ends, adjusting caster to a plus 5 with new inserts, and alignment, and adding a Safe T Plus stabilizer, fixed it. Drives like a dream. But I knew what was wrong on my test drive and knew I had a diamond in the rough.
