mirrow loose

The mirrow on the drivers door is about to fall off my 2001 E450 c class motor home. It is a power mirror with a heating eliment. it appears I have to take the door panel off to get to the mirrow attachment bolts. I removed the only two screws I could find, one AT UPPER corner by mirrow controls and one at lower left corner of door panel. I tried to remove door panel by pulling out to release any clips with no results. it appears that there are more screws or some type of attachement in center of door which I can not find. anyone know how to remove the door panel or thighten the mirrow. Thanks

In the thread linked above, CloudDriver notes that the spring under that retainer is a stiff little biter that Velvac assembles with a press. Then, UN-Fortunately, they try to just stake that pot metal to the retainer and hold back all that spring pressure.
What I suggested was look into setting a pipe nipple or piece of threaded tubing (try a lamp store) into the mounting bracket with epoxy. Then use a nut and washer to compress the spring and hold the repaired mirror arm in place.
This is only a thought process. I haven't repaired one of these, only seen the photos. If it worked out that the spring requires a lot of travel to compress into position, put the nipple or tubing in place with additional length and cut the excess off after assembly.
  • Here is an old thread about replacing the mirror and if you scroll down thru it shows how to get to all the screws and get the panel off.

On my '07, after the screws are removed, "lift UP" on the panel, not out, the panel has tabs in several places that fit into holes in the door then "lock" in when the panel is slid down.
