Missing Honda in 2017 Dinghy Towing Guide?

We need a new toad so we found our 2017 Guide to Dinghy Towing from Motorhome Magazine. Has anyone noticed that there are no Hondas in it? We checked the page numbers and there are no missing pages. We wouldn't be looking for a Honda anyway but we have a lot of friends towing CRVs.
  • Thank you Mark! I thought I was losing my mind! I double checked that it was 2017 many times and nothing between GMC and Hyundai. By the way, we are thinking about the Lincoln SUV, don't remember which MK it is. We are about 1.5 hours from Redlands and that is a possibility for us. We are taking a long rv trip this fall and plan on looking for the new car after the trip. Thanks for the tip and good luck with the Lincoln.

YOU ARE RIGHT! The Honda's are missing in the 2017 digital motorhome towing guide. It goes from GMC to Hyundai. Hmmmm. :h

The CR-V is an excellent tow vehicle (2014 and earlier).

I wanted to upgrade so I bought a new 2017 Lincoln MKX AWD last week and will pick it up Monday or Tuesday as they are getting it from another dealer. It will be a month or so before I can have the base plate and braking system installed. I want Redlands Truck and RV Performance Center in Redlands CA to install it since they did such a professional job on the Honda.

    Safe travels,
    MM.

Thank you Bill. I don't see those Hondas either. If you have it handy, can you tell me what page they are on? I feel like I'm in the Twilight Zone.

I'm not Bill but it's on page 54 of the January 2017 magazine. All manufacturers are listed alphabetically - Honda is right between GMC and Hyundai. :B
  • Do not believe the manual. Bought a Ford Fusion that manual said could be towed 4 down. Guess what the Dealer never knowledge that Ford retracted with an insert but know one new about. Only found out by FMCA doing research on the matter.

You cannot tow a car with a Constant Velocity tranny... usually has a chain instead of gears.
I learned the hard way that you need to use the manual to make sure a car can be towed. I assumed a 4x4 with a neutral position in the transfer case would be... not a Nissan Pathfinder. See how I tow below.

. In 2015 Honda started putting in Subaru SRT transmissions in all there CRV's so you no longer can tow them all four wheels down. If you choose to buy a Honda CRV to tow you will have to start at 2014 and search backwards. Good Luck
  • Look up recreational towing in the owner's manual of the car you're interested in (most manuals are online). If the car can be towed flat or not it should say so and give instructions for towing, dollying or whatever. Note that now even some manual transmission cars are not to be towed flat.

Don't put faith in guides, the owner's manuals are the real word.

  • The reason is there are no Honda auto that you can tow 4 down. The 2014 CR-V was the last one you could tow 4 down.
The Civic Coupe LX, Civic Sedan LX, Fit,and HR-V MANUAl transmision cars are listed in the 2017 FMCA towing guide.
