If you can get it to most auto parts stores, like NAPA, Autozone, Pep Boys, etc they will come out and check your OBDII for any engine codes that may have caused your check engine light to come on. If the light is off now, it may just be a one time event and it has cleared itself and everything is back to normal.
I have almost 90,000 miles on the same engine and I would guess mine has gone in to limp mode maybe six times. In each case it corrected itself and everything quickly got back to normal. If all of the gauges are reading normal, and the engine is running fine now, you probably don't have anything to worry about. If you have a nearby auto parts store, drive over and let them check your OBDII codes.
