Model Year Different From VIN

I know this is a common topic, but mine is a little different and I can't seem to find any info related to me.

On my 1996 Fleetwood Chevrolet Flyer Special the chassis VIN and the coach date of manufacture both show 1995, but the title and registration show it as 1996. I know there is issues where the chassis and coach years are different and that the model year normally goes with the coach completion.

This unit has been registered to multiple owners in different states and I find it hard to imagine the error (if there is one) hasn't been noticed yet.

Any info to enlighten me would be appreciated.
  • Vin numbers assigned by chassis manufacturer. There the ones thst determine year start dates. My guess, no mater what year it was build the chassis mfg lists it as a 96. Take the chassis vin to tour local GM dealer and ask them to run it for you.
  • My '90 Bounder was the same. Chassis made in 1989, coach built in 1989 and labeled as 1990. To compound things, in 1990 there were two model years, 1990 and 1990 1/2. Mine is registered as 1990 and was good for the warranty period and insurance purposes. Just as long as you know to ask for parts based on the VIN, your okay.
  • By mid year, a car company for instance can sell a car as the next model year. I would think it would be the same for an RV.
