More Class C fun in the southern Rockies...
Day 11 of our 2 week southern Rockies adventure and we are having a blast. Despite getting heavy rain nearly every day {which forced me to cancel an 800 mile loop through Colorado on the back of my Harley - arrrrg!}, we left the bike at my friends place in Angel Fire and did the loop in our 24' Nexus.
We drove to Durango and did a night at the Strater Hotel {130 years old}, right downtown and then drove up to Silverton on the 550 and then continued to Ouray on the Million Dollar highway. Spent the night at the Hotel Ouray {124 years old}, and enjoyed the Wiesbaden Hots Springs/ Spa just a block up the street. Very serious roads especially in heavy rain/thunderstorms so I know we made the right call leaving the bike behind.
From Ouray we went north to/through Ridgeway and on west to Telluride and on to Norwood where we stayed with friends for a couple of nights. Back towards Telluride and over the pass down through Rico and Delores before turning east, back to Durango where we stayed with some other friends. Even managed to get in 18 holes of Golf at the Dalton course right on the Animas River north of town {only got a little wet}.
Finally we drove back to Angel Fire for couple more days of fun. We will load the Harley and start the two day trek back to Tucson in the morning. We are already making plans to return right after Labor Day to some hopefully better weather.
The Nexus keep producing trouble free miles, we are up to 44,000+ and are averaging our usual 9.5 mpg. Considering all of the mountains we have taken on, over 11,000' several times and over 10K more times than I can count the V-10 continues to amaze. Have yet to find a road I cannot climb at the posted speed limit though I often choose not to. Even the 35K BTU furnace is getting some work despite it being August. Sorry no pics... mine are still being held hostage by Photo Bucket....arrrrg!
