Motorcycle Lift on Sunstar 26P

I have a Itasca Sunstar 26P Class A motorhome and a Goldwing motorcycle (about 1000 pounds). I would like to know if I can put a hydraulic lift on the back of the motorhome for the Goldwing. Camping world told me they could install one but that they did not know if that motorhome could handle it (even though they sold me the motorhome) and to call Winnebago. Winnebago said to call Ford. Ford said I had to figure it out myself but to watch for axel weight limits and to make sure that the front axel was still supporting a minimum of 35% of the total weight. Has anyone done this? Help!

I'm pretty certain your Class III hitch has a tongue weight limit of 500lbs. IMHO, you're better off using a small trailer for a m\c of that size and weight.

He said he was using a hydraulic lift, the hitch has nothing to do with it.

I looked under my 26P and there is some beef back there to mount a lift to. If you get the 35% weight up front like Ford says it should work pretty good. However, I have had my 26P fully loaded with food, tools, supplies, water and gas and it came in at 16,200 lbs. I believe your Sunstar is pretty much identical to my Vista and they are rated at 16,000 lbs so you will most likely be overweight.

    good luck!
  • Ford gave the right answer
Need to do the static vector analysis to see if its even possible given the distance the motorcycle and lift would be behind the rear axle, how much it weighs, axle max load specs, and like they said, how it unloads the front axle.......if I were to bet, I bet it's to small a rig and to low axle ratings but I don't know the specs of your rig, just a hunch

    Run the numbers!
