Motorhome Fuel Mileage

Many years ago, when we got our first Class A, my wife and I were delighted. As it turned out, my employers would sometime require long hours with little rest time. On those occasions I would take my motorhome to work and spend my sleeping time there, saving the 45 minute commute each way. One of my co-workers had a fit that I was driving such a gas hog. I took offense.

He was a single man driving a huge pickup truck getting about 12 miles to a gallon. On vacation, we would travel back to folks back north with as many as ten people on board. I called him a gas hog because he was only getting 12 people miles per gallon while I was getting as much as 60 people miles per gallon. Surprisingly, he agreed and never gave me another complaint.

  • Which pollutes/costs less?
RV weighing 12-40k lbs. with 2 aboard or a 200-500k lbs plane going 500 mph with 125 aboard? Then they all still have to rent a room, eat greasy food in resturants and rent a car?
The best thing about them is sometimes they get you there faster.
  • I always suggest my fuel usage has to be cut in half as I tow a car. I recognize that is bad math as the car gets much better mileage but at least it travels a lot of miles at zero fuel expense. I also use my motorhome for work lodging. I' m not sure if there would be many things we currently do that wouldn't be done if we didn't have the benefit of this home on wheels.
  • my belief is that such people are acting out of envy and should be ignored.
  • Many years ago....my mamma said names calling accomplishes nothing.

I think it goes something like, "Sticks and stones can break your....." something like that anyway.
