You also have to take into consideration the weight of the vehicle, the year of the vehicle, the cost of the vehicle. Depending on the state any one or even two can apply. They could care less about how long it is.

In SD you need to consider the weight and the year with the state. Counties can add a wheel tax but it is limited

So many things to consider and license fees are but a small portion of that. There are but a few insurance carriers that offer full timer insurance. Sure, you can fib or 'forget' to tell them you're a full timer, but I wouldn't want to have to pay the piper come claim time. We use National Interstate and it's about $1500/year. Less coverage means less premium, so yes, you can get it cheaper. A simple phone call will get you a personalized quote. Pennington County was one of the last no wheel tax counties, but I believe they enacted that this past year. Don't forget voter registration and driver's licenses. You must show proof of a one night stay to renew your DL in SD. Everything else can be done by mail. As for cost to register the vehicles, I can only compare SD to Ca and Az and they are cheaper than either of those states. As mentioned above, be sure you know and understand how residency will affect your health coverage....best of luck.....Dennis

Be prepared to pay a first time fee for registering all out of state vehicles in Florida!

Because registering a vehicle in New Hampshire is a two-part process, there are fees due to both the town/city and to the State. The usage or personal property fees and taxes in some states can be draconian, and they are paid yearly in most cases. Way more than title and registration costs. When we moved to FL we still saved money in the first year, even with the $250 for each vehicle brought into FL from another state. I think that RVs are exempt from that fee.

In Montana, any vehicle 11 years old or older can be permanently registered. The cost is about $250, give or take a little.
Yep, my truck and my motorhome have PERMANENT license plates! Next year, the car gets them.
Then I will never have to renew a registration again for the rest of my life!
ALL trailers, regardless of size or type; ALL motorcycles (including street legal ATVs); and ALL boats are also permanently registered!
