Guess I'm missing your complaint. I too do not like to resell stuff. I don't enjoy having a garage sale, I don't sell my vehicles, and I used to own a retail store...imagine that. But the dealer is in business to make a profit, and all his employees are there to earn a decent salary. Sure, they make up excuses to reduce the value of your product, but think of it a just conversation. In fact they are say it will cost you $**** for us to take all the responsibility of resale off your hands. You could make more with a consignment, but then you still have risk. Or you can do all the work and sell it yourself.
I find interesting the car dealer, or large appliance dealer, who talks for hours about the "well built" highly rated product being shown, and then after the sale tries to sell you and extended warranty and special risk insurance because you never know when it will break down.
Next time you want to trade in a vehicle, rather than asking how much you will get try asking..."how much will it cost me to have you sell my vehicle?" It puts the conversation in perspective.
Best to you and yours, and Happy Trails.
