I have a 04 workhorse chasis with 40k miles. I went to back it out of storage yesterday and after about five minute of running it died. I was going up a steep incline and originally thought maybe all the fuel had run to front of tank. I added five additional gallons and tried to restart with no luck. I coasted back down to level ground so I know that fuel is not the problem. I have ran the injector pump with pressure valve open and getting plenty of fuel. It does try to fire when I turn it over. I pulled breather hose off and poured fuel down it with no luck. I am thinking that the crankshaft speed sensor may be bad. I have ordered one but just checking to see if anyone else has had a similar experience. thanks

Did you check the "IGN" fuse?Do you have a OBD-II code reader?

Use to be when an engine wouldn't start it was either a fuel problem or a spark problem. Today....who knows?

I wonder about fuel, too. Before storing, you are supposed to put fuel stabilizer in the tank and run the engine until the stabilized fuel has surely reached the engine injection system to prevent untreated fuel from gumming up the passageways. I don't know how to check for the problem, but it can be very serious.

Sounds like it could be a failed ignition module.

As you were worrying about fuel level, I assume the tank was less than half full (less than 1/4 full?). If it was stored like that, you could easily have had water condensate build up in your fuel and you now have a slug of water in the injection system. Dump in a bunch of isopropyl alcohol and let it sit for an hour. Than try restarting. Be careful that you don't burn up your starter motor by cranking too long without a cool-off period.

Don't overlook the fuel filter but I had that exact problem with my Jeep and it was the crankshaft or cam sensor.

Have you looked for a loose connection on the cam position sensor?
What about the crank sensor?

had it connected with jumper cables. never really had a problem with rpms while starting. this was a sudden fail as engine was running then stopped. wiring appears fine on coils and plugs

Sounds like an ignition coil shorting out. General Motors had some issues with the insulation on them failing from heat and they would ground out while the motor is running. Just a thought.
