mounting dish

We are former live aboard boaters. It became too much work and we decided to buy a class a RV. We have Direct TV and bought a Weingard sat finder. I've been advised that mounting the bubble on top may limit reception in tree heavy parks. The suggestion was made by my dealer to buy a tripod and long coax so we can position the dish where we can get a clear shot. This makes a lot of sense. Is theft of these tripod mounts something I need to consider ?

    I would go Winegard Travel'r on the roof. I like parking, leveling then hitting the auto sat on. In a minute I have 3 DirecTV sats locked on and HD. I have never been blocked because I always watch where I park. Also, we can stop for lunch, hit the dish control and watch the noon news.

    Never worried about it. Less than 200 dollars if it does walk away is not going to break me.

    I have a roof top satellite dish and I just ask the RV park owner to give me a site that has dish access. 99% of the time I have no problem in private RV parks. Most problems I have had have been in State and National Parks where the RV sites are carved out of the forest and there are a lot of trees.
