mounting dish

We are former live aboard boaters. It became too much work and we decided to buy a class a RV. We have Direct TV and bought a Weingard sat finder. I've been advised that mounting the bubble on top may limit reception in tree heavy parks. The suggestion was made by my dealer to buy a tripod and long coax so we can position the dish where we can get a clear shot. This makes a lot of sense. Is theft of these tripod mounts something I need to consider ?
  • I would go Winegard Travel'r on the roof. I like parking, leveling then hitting the auto sat on. In a minute I have 3 DirecTV sats locked on and HD. I have never been blocked because I always watch where I park. Also, we can stop for lunch, hit the dish control and watch the noon news.
  • Never worried about it. Less than 200 dollars if it does walk away is not going to break me.
  • I have a roof top satellite dish and I just ask the RV park owner to give me a site that has dish access. 99% of the time I have no problem in private RV parks. Most problems I have had have been in State and National Parks where the RV sites are carved out of the forest and there are a lot of trees.
