On the front of the Breaker will be various labels. IF your Breaker has SWD on the front of it, you can use it as an ON/OFF switch. If you do NOT have that label, just purchase a new breaker with the SWD designation to use as an ON/OFF switch. Doug
exactly although like said really how often does one switch off the HW system? maybe 3-4 times a year ? even if u did it once a week its no big deal using the non SWD breaker
OK. They make different breakers for different parameters. WHAT makes you the expert on HOW MANY times you can turn a NON SWD breaker On and Off? 52 times a year would be WAY TOO MANY times for a non SWD breaker. It is NOT the breaker, but the LOAD(11 amps) that is surging thru the breaker contacs when turning on and Off. Pretty much the same principle when transferring loads on a 30 or 50 amp Auto Transfer box when the system has a load on it. After awhile the Transfer relay contacs pit and burn causing the Transfer box to malfunction. IF there is NO Load on that breaker, then turning a non SWD On and Off would have no problems. Doug
