7.3 (towing) is "fantastic"? Well...depends. How heavy is the "toad"? A full water tank has a negative effect (I usually have it filled 1/4 for the toilet, if needed). Propane...should keep it topped off especially during the coler months, but I don't think that has any real affect on gas milage, like the full water tank does. Are your grey/black tanks empty? If not, why not? Tire inflation? Too little...that takes away, even if just abit. Speed: More than 60-65, (on cruise control)...just watch that gas gauge dump. I run around 62 (tach reads 2500 rpm). Any slower on the Interstates, and you're looking for problems. Stop and go...traffic...eats it up. Can't help that....
Just my opinions...FWIW.
JerseyJim,
My black and gray are empty, the water is under a 1/4, the tires are filled according to the manufacturer's recommendations for the weight. I drive generally between 60 and 65, usually 63-64 on cruise. I have a 5-star chip tune so the transmission stays in gear longer and doesn't drop to 3rd and scream at 5k going uphill. My tow is a Jeep Liberty, under 4500 pounds. Over 20,000 miles, I have logged every fill and every mile. So I am at a loss as to the mileage reported by all the others. One interesting thing is that from central NJ to Harrisburg is my worst mileage. I think it is the frequency and length of the hills on 78 that screws with my mpg. As an example my 4 tank average on a trip to and from Kentucky was 6.6, the best tank on that trip was 6.9. What tire pressure do you run?
