Just returned from a 2341 mile trip to Oregon and back home in Idaho.
1998 Four Winds 22rk V10, weighed out at 11800 Lbs when we left. Speed limit in
Oregon is 55 mph on just about every road. We used 168 gallons of gas at
13 miles per gallon. I never saw a gas pump with 85 octane, 87 octane was the lowest. Prices in Idaho were $3.55 a gallon, in Oregon the range was $3.85 to $4.05. The Four Winds did just fine never gave a problem.
Explanation:
Please understand that in Oregon, even though the speed limit is 55 mph, there is hardly a straight interior road in the state. They are all two lane with passing lanes every few miles. When you drive highway 22 and 101 you can not stay at 55 mph, although the logging trucks and semi's are pushing you all the time. After five hours of driving highway 22, you'll think your arms are going to fall off. The only time I saw a semi doing 55, it was going up hill.
Why would I want to follow the speed limit? Oregon does not have a sales tax, they make there money off of fees for anything you can think of. Your first speeding ticket in Oregon for a minor infraction can be in the hundreds of dollars. With an out of state license plate, I stayed at 55 or less.
