How's the RV working out. I haven't been here in a while and was catching up. My generator did the exact same thing as yours. I rolled the dice, ordered a regulator and that fixed it. I use a Fram PH3614 filter and Wallyworld 15-W40 HD oil in the generator. I used to use Rotella but, I think that the Supertech HD 15-40 is basically the same thing. We go to the beach more than anything else. Keep that air filter on the generator blown out. Beach sand does a number..
I just had two full work days on my Mallard to get her ready for my winter road trips. Changed the oils and filters. Serviced the tires. Bleeched the water tank. Coated the roof. Made some minor interior repairs. Greased the chassis. Gave her a good washdown.
On the generator cradle my right side was broken. I do a little, light duty welding. I was being lazy and decided to weld the broken piece back on. Someone had tried to fix it before but, totally screwed it up using a braise of brass, is what it looked like. It probably lasted about 15 minutes. So, I ground all that off and MIG welded it. I decided that the mig would do better than the stick for this job. As I was wrapping up I noticed that the left side was cracked and about 1/8 of an inch from being completely broken. That would have sucked out on the road. So, I ran a bead over the crack. Point is, check the rails on your generator cradle. Where they crack is just South of where the bolts goes in to secure the tray closed. With a welder it's a super easy fix. Just manage the fire risk.
I made the mistake of letting a mechanic "tune up" my generator a couple of years ago. I had to go back and re-do it. At one time he had been a mechanic at Camping World. Now, he stays drunk so.. If you're ever in the Greensboro NC area and need work on your chassis the Ford Heavy Truck place on Regional Road is the place to go.
How does one "overhaul" the water heater? This sounds like info I need to know.
We were camping at Myrtle Beach a couple of years ago and the heater kept flaming out. Lucky we had two small electric heaters on board. I looked in there and there was a mud dauber's nest. I cleaned that out and the heat worked great.
We camp at Christmas every year. We waited too long to make our reservations and now we're stuck in a water electric site (no dump). That's OK really. I don't mind using the bath house and driving to the dump station every few days.
We were pulling the CRV on a trip over to Tennessee a couple of years ago. The old 454 pulls really strong so we topped a long pull running about 65-70. I came over the top and it looked like a straight drop all the way to the bottom. Lucky for me there was very little traffic because stopping was questionable at best. I just worked the brakes enough to maintain a steady speed, about 70. I didn't want to get them too hot so, I let it ride. Lesson learned.. Everything that goes up must come down. I have come down much steeper roads but, I started slow, geared down and eased on down the mountain.
Anyway, I'm rambling..
