You have done the right thing by straightening the fins and tell your wife you just possibly saved her having to sit somewhere for a few hours while you cooled down because it overheated with those bent fins.
I've got basement air, so the condenser is on the side. It actually had a little, too, that I had done a few weeks ago, much easier.
