I have no pictures this time, sorry about that. Yesterday my two friends and I stripped the oil pan, crankshaft damper and balance weight, torque converter flex plate, motor mounts, oil filter/cooler assembly and oil pump off the old engine and cleaned and transferred these items to the new engine (except for the oil pump, a new one came with my engine). Since the engine hung up on the exhaust manifolds during removal I finished removing the manifolds from the exhaust pipes (if I can find some good used or inexpensive new headers I may replace the manifolds). I realize that this doesn’t seem like much work but just dealing with having to move around an ungainly +600 lb engine block/head assembly adds to the difficulty. Fortunately, mpaton was nice enough to loan me an engine work stand which really helped when I reinstalled the many parts on the new engine and an electric impact wrench which I used to remove the manifold bolts (I have to get me one of them!). Between the long day and the mid-80 degree afternoon temperatures I was pretty tired by 5:30pm. Today I’m hoping the weather will cooperate and I can install my new engine. There’ll be lots of work left to do but at least the engine will be safely back in the RV.
I posted this at 6:18am and now an hour later I'm sitting in my motorless RV in the middle of a raging thunderstorm GAAAAH! What I wouldn't give for a nice dry pole barn right now.
