PirateLand. Our Favorite. HUGE sites on the beach. (not in the trees) Much quieter than the other 2. Much tighter control of the golf carts. And they are required to be on site by 11. No excuses. At OL, and LW. They run all night.
Hogwash. I don't know about Lakewood, but I know for a fact that Ocean Lakes also requires golf carts to be on site at 11pm just like Pirateland does. And, OL enforces the golf cart rules just as well as Pirateland does. I have relatives that were there a few years ago that learned that the hard way. :)
And yes PL DOES allow you to choose your site, as long as you pay for 7 days in advance. You can still cancel, But you can pick your site. they also have a lazy river.
Yes, but PL doesn't give you the information (size, notes about what is or isnt on the site, etc.) like Ocean Lakes does. OL also doesn't put you in sites where the back of your camper can be right up against the back of another camper like Pirateland does. There are roads between each row of campsites at OL, to give you a buffer.
Oh, and Ocean Lakes doesn't require you to pay for 7 nights in advance in order to reserve a specific site.
Something else to think about: IIRC, Pirateland is the place that requires mobile RV service that comes there to work on your RV to charge an extra percentage/fee, that goes to Pirateland as their 'cut'. None of the others do that. I know you hope you never will need a mobile RV service like that, but any CG that pulls a trick like that....Welll, I'd just assume not stay there.

Now Willard. You know they never completely stop at OL. The traffic gets a lot lighter after 11, but don't stop cold. We stayed on the front row there 2 years ago, and the carts kept straggling by well after 12. At PL. security is at every intersection, and at 11. they stop traffic, and turn them toward their site. I told a friend of our's who stayes at OL about the 11:00 stoping time, and he got plum upset, And ask, What if you need to take someone back to their site across the CG.?. Because his parents stay in the condo section, and he does take them back after 11. At PL, You better have them back before 11.
And no OL doesn't have back in sites, But the sites WE have had there are also not long enough to stay hooked up either, as they are at PL. And the last site we had at OL, wasn't even big enough to park the TV on site with the TT. and there was just barley enough room between the TT, and the road for a picnic table. This year at PL, we parked 3 vehicles on the site with the TT. And in truth. You don't back up to another camper, you back up toward the picnic shelter, Which BTW is another good thing. I really enjoyed our picnic shelter this year. And no they don't give info about what is on the site. Because they all have the same stuff on them, and the "beach" area sites are all huge. They are a lot smaller back across the bridge, up in the trees. Don't want to stay back in the trees.
No PL is not perfect. But it is quieter, and less crowded.
OL does have better, and more, bath houses, and a better area around the pool, deck and all. Plus a good area to do you wifi thing at. and their camp store is better stocked, and larger than PL. I also really like the observation deck they have on the beach.
Lakewood however has the best ice cream shop, and a good store as well. It is also more fun to ride bikes there, more places to ride too, and see. Or seems like it.
