Natchez Trace PKWY - doable?

We are wanting to travel the Natchez Trace PKWY from Natchez to Tupelo, Mississippi. We have a 36 ft Motorhome and towing a dinghy (Ford Escape). As baby Fulltimers, we could certainly use feedback on the Natchez Trace PKWY - drivability, RV parks, and points of interest. Appreciate any feedback.

Regards, 2Camerica. :)

  • Absolutely doable for you. There are a few free boondocking sites along the way. Also a few state parks just off the trace. Great way to spend a few days.
  • Tombigbee State Park while you're in Tupelo. The parkway is a smooth enjoyable trip. Bring hiking boots as there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy everything. You'll have no problems with your rig size. As has been mentioned, there's no commercial traffic and the speed limit is low. Tickets are given too....Dennis
  • Tupelo is where you will find Elvis's birth home and museum. Also, the Tupelo Hardware store in the quaint downtown is where Elvis's first guitar was purchased. The hardware store is still owned by the same family now in it's 4th generation.

There is also a nice car museum in Tupelo. They have a rare 1948 Tucker on display along with many other oldies.

  • We drive northern 1/2 of The Trace twice a year and have driven the complete route 5 or 6 times in our 40' DP towing a Sport Trac. Watch the signs at turn outs, a few are labeled for low overhead and no turn around. Meriweather Lewis Park has free no hookup sites that can fit a big rig. There is one fuel stop only on The Trace about mid way unless it's been closed in the past year. So fuel on the top 1/2 of your tank. Our favorite rest stop is the turn out just north of the Tennessee River, great place for lunch and to watch the river traffic.

There is no access to the new outer most belt around Nashville from the trace, no commercial traffic is allowed on any part of the trace.
  • Been on it from one end to the other. At the right time of year you will see plenty of deer and turkeys. Plenty of places to pull off and enjoy the scenery and there are lots of towns along the way for you to spend the night. It is a great ride with smooth roads and not too much traffic.

This website will give you more information about the Parkway than you can easily digest.

By the way, the National Park Service's website is excellent to research many issues.
