- RayChezExplorerI am just the opposite on the roadmaster chassis built for motor homes. There is no way that they can compare with chassis companies like Spartan and Freightliner who have been in the heavy duty equipment service with big trucks for years. The Roadmaster is just not built that strong. With eight or ten air bags they give a rough and stiff ride. I am sure that some like it, but you do not see any heavy buses with that kind of equipment which tells me the Roadmaster is OK for lighter vehicles, but not as heavy duty as the Spartan or Freighmaster chassis. JMHO!
- TrapExplorerDropping the RR8 and RR10 chassis would be a big mistake, the handling of the RR series of chassis was a big plus for the Monaco and Holiday Rambler.
- The_TexanExplorerJim, while I agree with you totally, everything I read says that the Roadmaster chassis is going the way of the Peak chassis and any other outstanding chassis......You know Freightliner will fight tooth and nail to keep the business, even if that means purchasing Roadmaster in order to bury it.
- JimM68Explorerhmm, did pages 4 @ 5 repeat 2 and 3?
I just hope (anyone at allied listening?) that the roadmaster chassis is given a fighting chance.
rr8r and rr10r are flat superior, better than what fleetwood is building now off freightliner stubs, better than anything freightliner has ever done. Better even than spartan, the other "RV specific" chassis. - webhannetExplorerHaving watched the YouTube interview of the man heading Navistar RV's transition to Allied, I had some GOOD FEELINGS for Monaco HR brands.
I'm sure Allied got Navistar RV for a song. They aren't keeping all of what they got -- they can move things tight into their big plant. What did they get? Not so much - a some dead motorhome brands, some patents, and freedom from the anchor of Fleetwood's past. While there are many unhappy former Fleetwood owners, the Monaco and HR names still have some respect and recognition. Unfortunately, if you do a search for dealers of any of these brands - you won't find much of a dealer network exists.
As long as Allied can cozy up to Camping World (as Thor did before the recession), they'll have a marketplace for whatever they produce..
Unfortunately, Allied's version on the Navistar RV brands won't be going into production until the end of the year. That's a long time for the brands to be dormant, but I hope they're able to use it in designing new products. It sounds like they're planning to chase the BIG motorhome market - over 40 feet. Good idea? - we'll see.
Will this be another terrible move for (of) Navistar/Monaco? The prior managements have run the "company" into the ground more than anyone could have imagined. Really, there's nothing left but the names. I hope Allied does well by it. Allied's description sounds a little like Navistar's did - BIG, DIVERSE, "ALL THAT". Please, don't repeat this history!
ALLIED: PLEASE get rid of the Navistar RV name - quick! - steveownbyExplorerThe MF13 got its EPA certification with the DEF system not long ago and I suspect that is the end of the MF13 issues. Navistar booked a big reserve to cover future warranty issues at the end of the year. Navistar's biggest problem was a dictatorial CEO and a weak board of directors who would not rein him in. He's gone now of course but his hubris almost brought the company down.
We don't have any direct interest in Navistar anymore but I wish them well as all American heavy manufacturing should be supported. Trap does of course but the MF10 has a pretty big base and I think will continue to be successful. - TrapExplorerYes Moisheh, the MF13 was the problem. To date the MF7 and MF10 have done ok.
- moishehExplorerThere are trucking fleets with the MF13 that do NOT use the trucks as they cannot get down the road without emission system problems. Those that bought Monacos with the MF10 will have trouble selling these units 3 or 4 years down the road. Does anyone else remember the Mercedes fiasco about 8 years ago?? Do not compare these engines to the Navistar powerplants from 10 years ago. The emission systems suck!
Moisheh - TrapExplorerWell put Steve, amazing how much wrong information there is out there about the MaxxForce engines

There are no more Navistar engines. their design is what broke them. Warranty cost on their OTR truck engines is humongous.
If they drop the Navistar engines, they could again be a contender. But any company that is on its third owner in four years has a lot to prove.
This is just not factual no matter how you view Navistar. The MF7, MF10 are both EPA certified without DCF. The MF13 has just been certified with DCF.
