Need a New Engine Battery.

The engine battery has died on our 2001 Fleetwood Bounder motorhome. We are looking for recommendations on a quality engine battery to replace it. We want something that would provide quality without breaking the bank.
  • On a budget, get the Interstate Megatron II.

Mid-range budget = Sears Die Hard Platinum (Rebadged Odyssey AGM).

    Money no object? Odyssey AGM.
  • Use Interstate or Costco batteries, both are good batteries at a reasonable price that have stores almost everyplace if you have problems with them.

My Interstate engine batteries are 11 years old. Guess what I'll replace them with when I have to start using the boost switch to start. Only two more payments and they'll be paid for.:W

You should know that many/most RV's don't' charge engine batteries when they are hooked up to shore power .. as such it's common for RV engine batteries to have insufficient charge to start up rig when the RV sits for a while. Many use devices like Trik L Charge to insure that both chassis and coach batteries are being charged. Just an FYI.

Fleetwood corrected that problem in 1995 on all but their entry level their MHs. And the rest of the RV industry has been playing catch up ever since. As designed the OP's Bounder should charge the chassis battery when plugged in.

It's simple and the best bang for the buck, to just stop by a Sam's Club and install the largest engine starting battery that will fit.
We replaced ours there and even changed over to a top terminal model from the stupid Chevy style, side terms. Picked up some post conversions at Auto Zone and it couldn't be better over what it was before.

  • If you're a member of Costco, or know one, check their batteries.
  • interstate is a good battery I,ve got them in some of my equipt, and if you should have a problem there sold nation wide. one of mine is six yrs old and starts the motor right up. if your rv sits for weeks at a time put a battery tender on the battery there about 8 bucks at harbor frt.good maint of a battery will help the life of the battery.
  • Depends on what you call breaking the bank. I just put an Interstate battery in my SUV for $125 and a couple of years ago I put an Optima from NAPA for $200. You get what you pay for. You can always check at Costco or Walmart for something less.
