I found, to my discomfort, that not exercising the generator every 4 or 5 weeks can be a problem. I have an '02 rig with a 5.5 KVA Onan. It's old enough(probably an '01 build) to have a carburetor (a French irregular verb meaning "leave well enough alone"). If you have a fuel injected generator, the monthly exercise may not be as critical.
Just before Christmas 2011, I had a cardiac problem that needed four stents and was out of action for about 4 months. When I got back to the RV, the generator refused to start and hasn't run since.
We're always FHU campers, so the lack of a generator hasn't been much of an issue, but I'm going to have to get it fixed before I put the RV on sale. I've run out of ideas, so it will be going to someone who's a specialist.
