Doug replied to my PM:
Unit is not cooling well, 6-10 degrees on back wall of the freezer and fins above 32. By disconnecting the thermistor it will freeze in the refer section. Had the correct new thermistor so installed it. Unit goes back to not cooling well with the above temps. In less than 8 hours with the thermistor disconnected it will be 0 or less in the freezer and the fins 28 or less in the refer section. Any suggestions of what to do next is appreciated in advance. Thanks Dick B
Well, only 2 things. The Thermister and then the Main control board. I would try another Thermister first. If that does not work, then the main control board. Remember, a BAD Thermister will still ohm out correctly per the diag for the Thermister. You do have the Thermister mounted to the rh fin correctly? Doug
Thanks for the help. I installed a new thermistor and it started cooling poorly. Yes the thermistor is installed correctly on the R fin.
*Did a Ohm/temp test on the old thermistor and it's 9K at 85 and goes all the way up to 60K when I put it in the freezer at 15 which means it's testing good.
**Using the door display test mode and hooking the new thermistor back up it registers a fin temp of 32 on test #3 confirming that it's good too. I'm starting to think a new control board is in my future.$$$ Would you reccomend a Dinosaur Electronics board over a Norcold?
Original OEM parts are just as good as Dinosaur. Dinosaur made their reputation back in the 90's when Dometic had a bad batch of refer modules for about 4 years that had intermittent problems. I would purchase based on price. The cheaper would get my business. We don't use anything but OEM parts as, IF there is an unusual problem the OEM Tech support will not help you and it makes definite diag harder. The fin temp is 10 degrees colder than the refer. So, in your case the fin temp should be at or below 28 degrees. Doug
Thanks on the OEM. With the thermistor disconnected my fin temp was 22 this morning when I hooked it back up. Until I get a new board I'm trying to find a spot near the fins for the thermistor that will regulate the temps automatically. Currently I have it against the case just below the fins and it's reading 29 and it's still calling for cooling as on LP the burner is still on and the back wall of the freezer is -2 using a IR temp gun.
