Sorry, I can't help troubleshoot the pump but here is my procedure.
Drain water heater and bypass.
Drain Fresh water tank.
I have a tee in my water line with 2 cutoffs so I can cut off the line from the water tank and draw pink stuff from a short hose that stays connected.
I then stick that short hose into the 1 gal pink and pump into the Hot, cold and toilet. I let enough pink pump out to fill the P traps and then finally run it through my outside shower/fish cleaning station. I put some in the two holding tanks also after the are emptied. Usually 2 gallons will do the trick.
I have to EDIT to remind everyone with a macerator pump to make sure it has some pink in it also.
