We often camp at King City park in central CA near Salinas. Has nice facilities and agriculture museum. Further south we camp at Cachuma Lake, 40 miles north of Santa Barbara. Not many camping areas with vacancies as you get near Los Angeles. LA is 90 miles from San Diego. If you plan to stay at KOA's etc. call ahead and make reservations. Traffic can be heavy through LA especially during rush hours, but is usually OK going to and from San Diego on the 405Fwy. Plan your route, make reservations, and use your GPS skirting around San Francisco and through LA to San Diego. 500 miles per day in open country is our max. Driving an RV through heavy traffic is taxing.
