That being said I also need to explain that we had a bad inverter motherboard which was likely the culprit. Before finding out about the motherboard, we had two large solar panels installed because we also do a lot of dry camping.
You need an intelligent solar controller that will determine the battery voltage and charge state so as to not over charge your batteries.
I assume you are not using your inverter to regulate the charge from the solar panels. Voltage range you discussed is not unusual. However below a certain battery voltage the inverter will no longer provide AC power.
Our controller has pulse width modulation, taper charge strategy, auto equalization or float, temperature compensation. I understand that essentially protects the batteries from over charge and provides for best battery maintenance. It is located on a panel above the microwave accessible by opening the cabinet door.It is about 2 Wide X 4 Long X 2 inches Deep
