Van conversions are more versatile than other RV's if needed for daily transportation. They are fine for a few days camping for two agile and compatible people. They are great for visits to local parks, airshows, theme parks, etc., in addition to touring and short camping stays. Having to make seats into a bed, using the shower/toilet and emptying porta potties and submarine-like living is fun for a while when you are forced indoors in bad weather. We have camped in a VW Westphalia, a Dodge Van conversion, a 23 foot Class C and finally a 27 foot class C which I think is the best compromise for us, with rear bedroom/RV Queen bed, adequate storage and cabinet space and basic comforts and features for our age, physical limitations and preferences. Suitable for a mature couple and a small family. If you really can't afford gas prices, consider selling your 30 footer, touring in a car and staying in decent motels for the near future, then decide if you need/want to buy a shorter RV.
