I understand where you are coming from. Short DP's that ride nice are hard to find that is why folks on here suggest a longer one. From what I have seen the CC Intrigue, CC Allure, make a very nice short DP that are well balanced weight wise and ride nice. Fleetwood Excursion makes a 34 ft DP as well as Winnebago. You will find a lot of posts about the Tiffin Breeze (28 & 32 ft) and problems with the front end being too light and handling problems as well as being under powered. Hopefully some of these shorter DP owners will give you more insight.
