Need to secure a portable toilet in a conversion van

Anyone have suggestion for how to secure a portable toilet in a conversion van? I have a 2002 dodge regency conversion van. Removed the 2 mid row seats leaving the bench/bed and the front driver & passenger seats. I just ordered the Camco 41545 5.3 gallon Travel Toilet. I have access to the floor bolts that a mid row seat attached to. Considered setting it into a rubbermaid type bin container when driving and then removing when setting up camp for the night. Thanks in advance

  • Hi Folks,

Here is an idea. Build a box that holds the toilet. Make a cushion to sit on top of the box. Use the box for extra sitting or foot rest.

    Heapie.
  • You might make a 2X4 frame mounted to the floor and use a nylon cargo strap to secure the porta potty while traveling.
  • After looking at pics of your toilet online I can tell you that there is a molded carrying handle on the back of the storage tank. You could get strapping material, run it through and secure using bolts into the floor holes.I'm sure you have metal plates on the floor so put some of that rudder not skid mat shelf liner below the toilet to keep it from sliding and rubbing.
  • Some more very important advice. When changing altitude, always relieve pressure in tank before using or when you pull the valve to drop contents into tank you may get the opposite effect.I found out the hard way.Luckily only pee.
  • Sorry I don't have a solution for you but I can give some advice. If it's not too late, cancel the order and order a Thetford curve. The reviews I read about this unit state that men will have a problem when sitting due to no room in the bowl for their privates.I went through this with my last van.Bought the cheaper model and gave it away.Bought the Curve and was so happy.Much more like a real toilet.
  • I have a portable marine toilet and just shove it under the cot. HOWEVER, instead of using water and flushing, I get kitty litter bags and kitty litter. Once used, just toss in trash can. I also urinate in hospital type urinary bottles. I also have seen folks using larger plastic bottles. Empty them in any rest area toilet. A lot less chance for accidents.
Should note that I travel alone. I could imagine this would work for 2 also.
I do know that Lowes or Home Depot sells toilet seats that attach to their 5 gallon buckets.

I don't know what places you have in your van to mount a pot... In my OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer I have the Cassette Potty and Shower combo and we very seldom use the shower part. We would just rather wash up at the sink and go the campground bath room bldg to take good showers... There is just something about sitting on the pot to take a shower hehe... This is using up too much space since we don't use it that often for showers. Not shown here is a wrap around pull shower curtain...

I am seriously thinking about pulling that out and getting a cassette potty that has the included enclosure. This can used as a bench seat when not being used...

Uses this pull out cassette tank with wheels making it easy to tote to the camp ground bath room and pour down the toilet. This setup has a six gallon fresh water tank for flushing...
