To increase power, this engine also came in a 300 HP version from Cummins, but I really don't think the cost of making the change would be worth it. Also, a Banks kit would increase HP, but again, it isn't really needed and I wouldn't recommend it.
Parts are absolutely not a problem. Their are Cummins shops all over the country and NAPA also sells parts.
As for reliability, the 8.3 isn't scheduled to have any serious preventive maintenance done until 300,000 miles. Your 460 would be lucky to last that long.
I have an 8.3 and it is a wonderful engine with enough power. It's quiet and smooth. Don't drive your friend's coach as you'll be spoiled the first time you drive it.
