I did go on a couple of trucker forums to see when they changed their oil and the norm was 50,000 miles or more but they did change the filter more ofter. What ya think? I have an oil change coming up, LOL!
While you were there, did you happen to find out anything about Luberfiner filters? Don't think you have on on your diesel's engine.
But there are aftermarket oil filtering systems available for your diesel that will greatly extend your oil changes.
Or you could look into a synthetic diesel motor oil like Shell Rotella T6 or Mobil Delvac 1. Both are well documented for use in extended oil changes. But not to a extended time frame your are talking about.
But I do personally know of diesel engine that ran well over a million miles in the commercial transportation setting. They ran the engine without ever changing the oil, just changed the filters and topped off the oil. It was a un-named, un-branded, synthetic oil that the oil company supplied to Lyons Transportation Lines, a LTL company, for testing. They tore down the engine at a million miles and measured everything and put it back together without replacing any internal parts, and continued to run the engine. The engine was still running when Lyons went through bankruptcy and was sold off with the rest of the equipment. The only reason I know this is because my wife's uncle was one of the head mechanics for Lyons, and the only mechanic who was allowed to touch that particular engine. He wanted to know what that oil was too, but never found out. He is no longer with us to document the information, but you just got a portion of what he passed along to me.
