Any suggestions on Brands. Warranty effected if in a motor home? I am replacing the always wonderful forever 45 degrees Norcold 1201LRIM. Those dimensions are where I am trying to stay. Top freezer. I'm listening folks. Just can't buy a rebuilt or new cooling unit for a 4 door BOMB. thanks

It took awhile but I finally found a home refer that was very close... 1/2" too tall. DW wanted to save the drawer below our 1200 but unless the DW is fairly tall, having the freezer against the ceiling may not work. My DIY home refer install.

I just replaced the cooling unit in my 1200. Everyone said to replace with residential but it would require taking the front windshield out and having a dealer do it costing hundreds and hundreds plus the trim work. So I went with a new Amish Built for about $1200. It works better than new. Easy enough to do. A helper makes it easier.

I replaced my cooling unit five years ago with a Amish one and while it worked better, it still was not great. The 21 cuft Whirlpool uses less than 100 watts AC when running as the compressor is not much larger than a grapefruit.Here are the model # that I found at Home Depot:Whirlpool refer on sale for $648 plus $99 for a ice maker...WRT311FZDW... whiteWRT311FZDB... blackSS for $949.

My Dometic always stays under 35 degrees in cooler months and under 40 degrees in hotter months, why not just change brands and keep the gas operation during dry camping..

Do some close measuring. Before you purchase look at a counter depth model ref. as the box on my 23.5 cu.ft. Samsung is 24" with the doors off verses 31" on a standard refer. My entrance door is 26" leaving 2" to spare allowing it to come through after removing the drivers and passenger seats. The old 1200 lrim also went out the door after removing it's doors. I have no vested interest in Samsung but they will not void your warranty when installed in a RV as some other manufacturers do. They will also run with no ill effects on a modified sine wave inverter as the incoming power is rectified to a DC voltage and the compressor and cooling fans all run on DC. These components also are variable speed and operate more efficiently using less power. My refer is above the furnace and by building a steel platform bolted through the floor and lowering it we still can reach the top shelf. Also removed the old wall that was adjacent to the Norcold. Yes it was a fairly large project but as Dennis says "I have to micro wave the ice cream to make it soft enough to serve". Had $1100 in the swap and never looked back.
