BUT...here is reality froma real, honest to goodness lifetime Resident of California...ME!
We Californians already have whole fleets of electric Pepsi trucks, natural gas trucks, hybrid trucks and other alternative fuel vehicles such as hydrogen. These are all commercial vehicles.
We also have restrictions on the Ships in our Harbors diesel emmissions as well as trains.
Hey..when I was a kid in grade school here in SoCal we had smog so bad that we had to stay inside the classrooms all day. The skys over Los Angeles were clearly visible from my home in Orange County as a dark muddy brown color..and it made your lungs hurt and you coughed when you took a deep breath. I swear half the kids I knew had asthma..including me!
A World leading research center says now air pollution has never been lower, even tho the number of cars, big industry and people living here have tripled between 1960 and 2010, air quality better per studies the past 10 years by joint institute of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and CU-Boulder.
I for one am completly satisfied with California's Air Quality Management Departments being a leader in cleaner air. It's one of the few things that I see as a improvement in this State over the years!
If folks from other States are upset with our efforts to keep our State safer and more livable for our future generations..just remember all the bashing we got when we made the car manufactures clean up the exhaust in new cars. We had to put up with some prety lousy running and poor performance cars till things got sorted out!
Now it's clean Diesel, DEF, catalytic convertors, LP, Solar Power, Electric and Natural Gas.
Now pretty much every Country on Earth has followed. And California has more all Electric and Hybrid vehicles that anyone else on Earth!
So we'll continue to keep things as clean as we can, so you'all can enjoy San Francisco, Redwood Forests, Yosemite, Napa, Hollywood, Mt. Shasta, Death Vally and yes...all of Californias 840 mile coastline!
Oh yeah...you're welcome to come to Disneyland too!
Real 1962 photo of a LA Smog Alert..

Excellent post. People who have not lived in 'smog' really don't understand the importance of regulating pollution. It's not so much a government thing as it is a health issue.
