New CA Emissions law for Diesel's

I have a friend who owns a trucking company in CA and has been getting updates on new emissions standards for diesel engines.

The idiots are proposing new laws that would be retro-active for all diesel engines that would require a conversion to the "blue fluid" for all trucks and RV's, even if they are not registered in CA.

They would fine any Diesel truck or RV that enters the state that has not had the conversion kit applied. Unreal !

Keep a look out for news on this going forward and lets see if we can kill this nonsense before it gets wings.

  • So does this mean we won't be able to bring our little smartie any more?

meaning, are diesel cars from out of state included or exempt.

WHOOPS, ON EDIT, JUST NOTICED THE 14000 LB GVWR CRITERIA.

  • I just hope my son gets to move next spring so I will never have to go to CA again!
However, I will miss stopping at Delicato Winery and stocking up. They will not ship to Montana. Maybe I can get an address in a state they CAN ship to, and have them ship there...
  • Me again. I get to keep my hair. See the regulation at the link below and note info on page 2.

    http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onrdiesel/documents/TBFinalReg.pdf

    (c) Exemptions
This regulation does not apply to:
    .
    .
    .
    (10) Motor homes for non-commercial private use;

    Information is power.

Now while it does seem like this regulation may add significant cost for new DPs ($10-15K), for older DPs, nothing to see here folks.
  • Seems to me I read something about California wanting all DIESEL GENERATING plants to retrofitted by a certain date.

This has probably been used as a scare tactic to scare people into being against it.
You know the media . Why bother with facts go for the headline.
  • Yes, I would like some facts myself before I set my hair on fire.

For example, this gubment website on the topic says nothing about going after older RVs.

    http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/onrdiesel/onrdiesel.htm

This article is also interesting as it talks about how this whole thing led to Navistar's engine problems:

    http://www.motorhome.com/rv-how-to/rv-tech-tips/clearing-the-air-2010-diesel-emissions-standards/

Seems they tried to approach the emissions problem fro a different direction and it did not turn out well. But this was all about future RVs, not retrofitting older DPs.
  • Do you have any evidence of this? I don't doubt the folks in California would propose something like this, but so far without some evidence, it's just heresay.
