REverse order
The capicator is because the Magnetek converters had to have a battery so if there was no battery you instralled a "Battery Simulator" and that is what Magnetek called the Capicator.. THey do have their uses.
Replcaing the converter.. Two suggestions depending on conditions.
IF this is a "Strand alone" not part of your power distribution system then Progressive DYnamics either a 9200 optionally with the dongle Or a 9100 series WITH teh Charge wizard option (What I have)
The "Dongle" gives you a visual status indicator and the ability to manually force a different mode... If you do not know how to take advantage of that (I have had to on occasion) then the 9200 without dongle (Can be added later)
If you do know how to take advantage of it. then either the 9180 with wizard or the 9100 with dongle.
IF the converter is part of the power distro panel The 4600 again dongle optional.
