We tow a Honda Fit.
If we stop for a short restroom break (20 minutes or less) I don't touch anything in the car.
We usually take our lunch break after 5 to 6 hours of driving so at that point I turn off the key, put it in park, and go through the pre-towing procedure again.
However I don't do any of that until after we eat lunch and are ready to leave. My fear is that if I turn the ignition off and put it into park immediately upon arrival at the rest area I might pull away from the rest area with the car in park after lunch.
What I am unclear about is the need to re-insert the fuse before re-doing the pre-towing procedure. I don't bother pulling it for shorter trips (less than 8 hours) as I have never had an issue then. I have experienced a dead battery on the third day of three straight days of 8 plus hours of driving.
The instructions say to not remove the fuse until AFTER completing the pre-towing procedure. So does that mean when I stop for lunch and want to re-do the pre-towing procedure I need to re-insert the fuse, do the pre-towing procedure, and then remove the fuse again?
