Phil, what makes you think you have a 6th gear, I don't on my 2012? I'm not sure your original trans even had a 5th. Perhaps your replacement is a model or two newer than your original 2005? Regardless the Torque Shift, when operating properly, does not skip a gear and drop down 2 or more. It will go from 5th to 4th, 4th to third etc..
A lot of confusing "facts" (???) on this thread but bottom line ANYTIME you are under a significant load, up or down you should have the Tow Haul engaged. Having recently driven Death Valley rest assured it qualifies as a"significant load". :S
