I use a piece of foam or several rugs and lay across the engine to get to it. Good luck.

Well, along with the remorse, you hopefully got the thing, next to free.
It would help tremendously if you'll make the rig's info as part of your signature for much better responses. Now, having said that, is the chassis a Ford, Chevy or otherwise. With my Chevy, you can best see the MC by sticking your head up under the front driver's side wheel well or you can remove the dog house engine cover from inside the coach and look down on the left side towards the front. You should also be able to see the bottom side of it by crawling down under, but the frame may be under it and blocking the view, some.
As a side note, if you have coil spring front suspension and probably air bags inside the coils (after market coils are available that don't require air bags), then it's a P32 Chevy chassis.
Try eBay for a chassis manual and you might try these links for some parts...Clickity
OK and upon edit, you have a Ford and a solid front axle, but your Master Cylinder should be in the same place or there about.
See what I mean about the info and you made me type all that for nothing....lol:)
  • the master cylinder is most likely under the floor
it might have a brake fluid reservoir under the front "hatch", some do some don't
it might be down fairly low, behind the grill, so take another look

  • My bad it's a class A Ford. Thanks for the post glac I will check the frame too.

If it is a Chevy it is under the dog house on the LH side of the frame fwd of the eng. You can also see it from the LH wheel well if your turn the tire.
  • Hi,

What model motorhome, it will help someone. Is this a class A or C?

All of the class C's have the brake booster and master cylinder under the hood. I have not seen a class A with the master cylinder anyplace except under the hood. You probably have a 'hydrobooste' system, where it has steering hoses going to the brake booster, it is much more compact, and does not stop working when you loose vacuum when driving the RV. It also does not have that typical '9" diameter vacuum booster' that is found on most trucks and vans built before 2000.

What brand is the chassis? Do you have the 454 engine or the 460" Ford?

Many of the parts on my 1997 F-53 class A Ford chassis are interchangable with the 1996 F-350 dually with the same 460" engine and 4 speed transmission. My transmission used the same in pan filter as the 4 wheel drive 96 F-350 filter.

My brakes are the same as the 1996-97 F-450 brake pads, rims are the same, tires, ect.

I have not needed to change the master cylinder yet, but I hope that I will be able to get one locally. The last hydroboost that I had to install cost me around $950 to buy at a large auto supply wholesaler, where the City I worked for bought thousands in parts monthly, so I got a 'good' price, back in 1996. If you do need to replace the hydroboost unit, expect to pay dearly for it. I would not 'want' a hydroboost from a random junkyard truck. Problem is they are just as old as yours, and might be ready to leak, and you have no idea if the unit was recently replaced or not.. ..

The master cylinder bolts to the hydroboost, so you can replace one without the other. If you have leaking power steering fluid on the drivers side of the firewall, it is normally due to a leaking seal on the hydroboost, and you must replace or rebuild it. .

    Good luck!

    Fred.
  • Many of our group's members are Canadian. Importing used autoparts is not a killer tarrif. If you live within striking distance of the border, you should think about setting up a US receiver. The cost is in clearing customs through a broker, but if it is in your truck, you don't need a broker. Even better would be to get the coach mobile and drive it across put the parts on (it is then a repair in route) and then go home.

    Good Luck
