Eagle Cap Owners - AC Wiring/Install

I purchased a 2008 Eagle Cap 855, and would like to install an air conditioner.

The brochure indicates the camper is pre-wired for air conditioner, wondering if anyone knows which vent the AC is pre-wired to, and if anyone has done this before, maybe what model AC they used and such?

  • The roof opening and AC dimensions are universal afaik. But you can check the specs and your opening to confirm.

  • It’s likely the forward vent. If one has a fan and the other doesn’t, likely that one.
But it’s not really worth asking. Check one, if not there, check the other.
Regarding what AC to buy, I don’t have specific recommendations, but a general one. I’ve only put one AC on a camper.
General:  if planning to run off a 2k generator or household 15-20A circuit, find the one with the least power draw, ideally a soft start or add a capacitor yourself.
It’s a little camper so I wouldn’t get hung up on a few more btus.
Size:  Eagle Cap and the other “tall” campers hit at or just over 12’ tall to top of AC as that is typically the highest point.
Our old AF TCs were just over 12’ tall on the truck with a standard height AC.
Replaced the one with a low profile unit when I destroyed the first one. That allowed me to get in my 12’ shop door without airing down bags and tires to clear the door opening.
If you’re not trying to clear a 12’ opening, this probably doesn’t matter to you.

what are you calling the forward vent?  I call the one in the bedroom the forward vent.  in my camper it is the middle one that has the ac prep package.

Ya idk, just a guess. Let me rephrase.
There’s only 2 big holes in the roof in an 9’ truck camper. It’s one of the 2.

  • I have a newer adventurer (same company)  and what they did was put a box inside one of the kitchen cabnets and a chanel from there, to the vent beside it that a wire can be pulled through.  the older ones like your eagle cap might have the wire pulled through already and just be tucked up around the vent opening under the cover.   but if you find that box it will be the closest vent to it.
