Using Sodium bicarbonate can be an effective way of controlling fungus growth and it does remove much of the taste and smell from plastic tanks including the chlorine. I once bought a bottle of Valterra drinking water fresh from the local RV place. I then did an MSDS search and found that it was sodium bicarbonate repackaged with a very nice profit margin.
