New Tires - New (upcoming) Mod

I just had all 6 of my tires replaced. It was expensive but necessary. I decided to keep two of the tires and intend on carrying one with me. This will be the mod. None of my bays will hold the tire so I am deciding on ways that I can carry it. One idea is to mount it between the frame near the rear. A more simple solution might be to store it under the bed but DW doesn't like that idea. I thought about the roof but that would require some sort of platform and more holes in the roof and is not desirable to me. Anyone else figure out a way to carry a spare?
  • The info for that device states it is for trailers and not designed for MH's. If the poster's unit was a FL diesel there are plans for building an underslung carrier that fits between the frame rails. The poster's unit is a gas model and I doubt there is room. Most FW units have one compartment with a cut out for the spare??

  • don't know what if anything you are using as a toad but might be easier to get at if it was on the toad roof rather than the rv roof.

That was my thought also but, the poster said it was a roof vent, not a A/C unit.
Or if you're going somewhere A/C is not needed it wouldn't be an issue.

There is a company that makes an sling for carrying between the frame rails. That's all I can tell you about 'em without trying to find 'em. HOWEVER if you sling a tire there you should have it mounted. else it can collect **** inside the tire including water that can rot it.

Not sure this one will do the job for you but there are others. I googled "RV SPARE TIRE MOUNT"

Rv Upgrade Store, oh and they have a weekly give away too
  • years ago I kept my spare tire on the roof. I simply silicond a piece of plywood to the roof after putting a couple of eye hooks through it with carriage bolts. the eye hooks allowed me to tie down the tire to the board.

I had a tire cover over it and it was there for many years and never moved. The silicon will keep the platform from moving and will not require any holes to be made in the roof.

If on the roof, you really need to cover it, preferably with a white cover or the UV light will destroy it pretty quickly.
  • I forget the title of the thread. The post I'm referring to was just a response.
I don't think would take the chance either. I would at least strap the tire down somehow.
    But, it is an option.

There was a recent post where someone said they put a spare around the roof air conditioner. I don't think it was strapped down, just held in place by weight.

I searched prior to posting but didn't see that thread. I'm not sure I would want to take that risk.
