new tires

After reading all of the horror stories of blowouts I ordered new Hankook tires for my MH. The old 670's were dated the 39th week of 2006. I had good experience with the Goodyears but from what I read on this site everybody seems to be happy with the Hankooks and the price was a lot less. For 275x70x22.5 I paid $425.00 per tire mounted plus sales tax. Hope I made the right decision.:@
  • I just replaced my 275/70-22.5 Goodyear G670's this morning with new Hankooks. The GY's and Hankooks are both the same load rating, so no worries. The GY's were manufactured in February 06, so it was time. The Hankooks rode great, and the owner of the place I bought them from told me if I did not want to check the pressure, stop by on my way out and he or one of his guys would. I normally check mine myself, but it is nice to know the DW can stop by and she will be taken care of.
  • I'm biased toward Bridgestone tires as have been using them for 14 years now with zero issues.

Good luck with your choice & safe travels...
  • The Hankooks have the same rating as the 670's they replaced which had a h rating which is a 16 ply rating which is the same as the Hankooks. The Michelins in that size have a j rating which is equal to an 18 ply rating. You are correct in some situations. In my case the Hankooks met the spec's of my coach:)
  • Just make sure that any tire you buy is rated for the weight of your motor home. If I was told correctly when I shopped for tires the 275/70/22.5 hankooks were not rated the same as the same size michelins.ie my front tires, for the weight, need to be inflated to 100 psi. The handbooks would have to be inflated to 130 psi. More than the max for the wheel.
  • Tinkerer, I see you are in Wisconsin too. I'm central. I need to get new tires in the spring. May I ask where you got them? Dealer or tire place?

We have one RV dealer in our area that deals in/services motorhomes and I like to compare but I don't even know where to start.

When I had the dealer check the dates on mine (they were all turned inward) he told me that the newest 2 were cheapies like from Fleet Farm. I wouldn't think Fleet would have the ability to lift a class A?
  • I have 22s on my suburban and had 19.5 on my gasser. When the time comes I will be getting 22.5 for the motor home. I think you will be happy. Might just be a little uncomfortable sitting on a fatter wallet.
