I have steel rims with chrome simulators. I don't plan on sandblasting them and I doubt the tire store will.
Where the cleaning comes into play is steel rims on over the road trucks. Steel wheels rust and dirt and grit get trapped in the bead area. The tire can fail and the rim also. The rim can really chew up the bead area and once it rust there it doesn't take too long for the rim to go in bad environmentss like salt and gravel dust. For that reason many replace the rim at the same time they replace the tire especially if they go through much salt.
The aluminum rims may also require cleaning of the bead area if we use the MHs much. Wouldn't sand blast though. If bad enough might replace. clear coated aluminum rims were about 235.00.
