On top of that, my instincts and the information I have access to are telling me we are coming up on a major event in this country, probably economic collapse or something that leads or causes it. Because of this, buying a house right now was not something I was ready to do because I do not know how all of this is going to play out.. I felt it was more important right now to get settled on some land, make arrangements for food and water supply and be prepared to take care of my own when it happens without needing to run to the grocery store to resupply. I have about 6 months worth of supplies right now stored. What worries me is it will not be enough before things stabilize again.. What I DO believe though using both common sense and information I have access to because of my background, we are headed for a major collapse in this country, and perhaps around the world, economically. Anyone that does not realize that is only fooling themselves..
If your motivation for all of this is to prepare for some sort of collapse of society, presumably accompanied by civil unrest, I'm not sure a motorhome is your best choice. It's pretty easily penetrated, German Shepherd or not, and fairly well exposed to the elements as well as people that might be more heavily armed than you. There's always someone with a bigger gun.
You have 6 months of provisions stashed. How do you plan to get them from wherever they're stored to the motorhome?
While the idea of being able to jet on a few minutes notice is a plus of the motorhome idea, in the instance of the events you describe it would be difficult to get it fueled up. You will have such a limited range that the portability of a motorhome becomes a liability more than anything else.
Plus, in hunkering down in a manner that will keep you warm you will pretty much make the unit difficult to move in a hurry. Further, with the world collapsing around them, I doubt the propane delivery guy would put you on the top of his priority list.
If your goal really is to prepare for and survive a cataclysmic collapse of the world as we know it, trying to do it in an RV is not a great choice. Yeah the guy on the Walking Dead did pretty good in his Winnebago for a while, but in the end it didn't work out well.
Given your goal, I would recommend a more permanent, hardened, insulated structure that you can survive in for an extended period of time. An old motor home doesn't fit the bill.
Just my opinion. YMMV.
