OP here and thanks to all who are responding. Seems that what I was charged was near correct and evidently the girls in the booths prior, did give me a break, as they said. I just didn't realize how significant it really was. You don't always get what you pay for with government and too bad that the tax payers have to pay for traveling on a bad road that they paid to construct in the first place and there's something bad wrong with this picture. No way they could be using all this money for repair and resurfacing either. Now with my initial amazement, keep in mind that we only have a few states to go in New England to complete our travels in the lower 48 and we have never encountered such a thing anywhere with 3 trips across country, so you might understand where I'm coming from. In Florida, most all the major thruways are free and we've never been on the TP, so don't have a clue. In CA we traveled the coastline and stayed off the interstate system whenever possible. When we did get on, like from San Diego to Las Vegas, I don't think we paid, which was some years ago. Didn't pay on I10 or I8 in any state, going across just last summer, either.
Most all of you who responded, seem to get it and for those who don't, I'm attributing it to coming from a family of crooked politicians....LOL or maybe not so funny at that!
